Program Overview
Program for Intensive English (PIE)
The Program for Intensive English (PIE) at Indiana University Indianapolis provides academic English (ESL) classes for international students, visitors, and Indiana residents. The program offers 7 levels of English instruction, ranging from beginner to advanced. Curriculum includes:
- Listening
- Speaking
- Reading
- Writing
- Grammar After PIE, many students go on to succeed in their careers or continue their studies at colleges and universities including IU-Indianapolis, University of Indianapolis, Butler University, Ivy Tech Community College, Trine University, and others around the world.
Mission
The mission of the PIE is to provide non-native English speakers with high-quality, principled, research-based instruction and supportive advising that will help them develop the communication and academic skills as well as the cultural understanding necessary to be successful in academic, professional, and social settings.
Study English at the PIE
PIE welcomes all students age 16 and older, including international students, visitors, and Indiana residents. Whether your goal is school, work, or everyday communication, the program is designed to help students take the next step. The program has 6 sessions per year beginning in:

- May
- June
- August
- October Students can start at the beginning of any session.
Program Structure
The PIE is part of the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts, located at 425 University Blvd, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in English, preparing them for success in their future endeavors.
