Indiana University School of Dentistry

The Indiana University School of Dentistry is a multidisciplinary hospital and office-based practice that provides the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty care. The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Hospital Dentistry operates several clinics, including:

Scope of Practice

The department provides a wide range of services, including:

Anesthesia/Sedation

The department offers various anesthetic techniques, including local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, and intravenous sedation, to produce pain and anxiety control.

Cleft/Craniofacial Surgery

The department provides comprehensive procedures for children and adults with congenital and acquired craniofacial differences and deformities.

Cosmetic Surgery

The department offers facial cosmetic treatments and procedures, including facial peels, skin enhancement procedures, and surgical procedures for rejuvenation of foreheads, eyelids, and sagging facial tissues.

Dental Implants

The department provides dental implant surgery, which is a long-term solution to missing teeth. The IU-OMFS team offers state-of-the-art dental implant treatments, utilizing the most modern technology and modalities of treatment available.

Dental Sleep Medicine (Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Snoring)

The department specializes in providing comprehensive care to patients with sleep-related breathing disorders, including snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

Dentoalveolar Surgery

The department performs procedures such as surgical extractions, removal of wisdom teeth, and management of local oral pathological lesions.

Hospital Dentistry

The department provides dental care for patients at the intersection of medicine and dentistry, offering a collaborative approach to oral health.

Orofacial Pain/TMJ Problems

The department provides specialized care for a wide range of orofacial pain conditions through non-surgical approaches.

Orthognathic Surgery

The department performs corrective jaw surgery to correct minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities.

Pathology

The department diagnoses and manages diseases affecting the oral cavity and maxillofacial region.

Pediatric Maxillofacial Surgery

The department specializes in the treatment of infants and children with a wide range of conditions of the head and neck region.

Reconstruction

The department performs reconstructive procedures of the oro-facial region, including replacement, reconstruction, or revision of complex soft tissue defects, jaw and skeletal bone problems, and restoration with dental implants.

Special Care Dentistry

The department delivers compassionate general dentistry services and provides education for oral health personnel in the management of individuals with physical and/or developmental disabilities.

Temporomandibular Joint Surgery

The department undertakes both the non-surgical and surgical management of patients with temporomandibular joint disorders.

Trauma Surgery

The department provides comprehensive emergency cover for complex bony and soft tissue facial injuries.
