Program Overview
Introduction to the IU Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Non-Categorical Internship Program
The Department of IU OMS currently accepts four candidates for a one-year full-time non-categorical internship. This program increases the candidate's knowledge of, and experience, in the specialty.
Program Objectives
The objectives of the program are to:
- Increase clinical training and knowledge of advanced dentoalveolar surgical techniques
- Provide experience in taking hospital trauma
- Enhance knowledge and experience in managing a surgical patient
- Develop surgical competence in operating room etiquette and procedures
- Increase exposure to interdisciplinary treatment planning
Program Details
Program Length
The program lasts for 12 months, from July 1st to June 30th.
Eligibility
Qualified candidates must be a U.S. citizen who have earned a DDS or DMD degree from a U.S. Accredited Dental School.
Salary and Benefits
The salary and benefits are equivalent to a categorical PGY1 residency position.

Applications will be accepted between December 1st and January 31st of the current application cycle.

Program Outcome
The internship offers an excellent opportunity to improve one's clinical skills and chances of matching in a residency program, but it does not guarantee admission to the OMS residency at Indiana University.
