Program Overview
Introduction to the Geology Engineering Program
The Geology Engineering program at Jilin University was established in 1998 by integrating the "Water Resources and Engineering Geology" and "Mining Engineering" disciplines from the former Changchun College of Geology. The program has a long history, with the "Water Resources and Engineering Geology" discipline dating back to 1952, founded by Professor Liu Guochang under the advocacy of Li Siguang, the first president of the Changchun College of Geology.
Program Overview
The Geology Engineering program combines the strengths of "Water Resources and Engineering Geology" and "Mining Engineering" to cover the exploration, development, and environmental aspects of geologic resources and hazards. The program has formed four distinct research directions:
- Complex drilling technology and equipment
- Rock and soil properties, geologic hazard assessment, and prevention
- Groundwater safety engineering and technology
- Control and remediation of underground pollution
Research and Achievements
The program has been listed as a key discipline in Jilin University's "211" and "985" engineering projects and has been evaluated as a provincial key discipline in Jilin Province. The program has also been ranked as a "first-class" discipline in the national discipline assessment. According to the Shanghai Ranking, the Geology Resources and Geology Engineering discipline has entered the top 8% globally.
