Program Overview
Introduction to the Global Engineering Education Exchange Program
The Global Engineering Education Exchange Program (GE3) is an initiative aimed at cultivating a batch of students with international perspectives in the field of engineering. Established in 1995 by a group of top-tier universities worldwide, this program allows undergraduate engineering students from participating universities to engage in exchange studies at other member universities for a semester or an academic year. A key feature of the program is that students only need to pay tuition fees to their home university, without incurring additional tuition fees at the host university.
Program Features
- Tuition Fee Waiver: Students are exempt from paying tuition fees at the host university, only requiring payment of tuition fees to their home university.
- Flexible Duration: Participants can choose to study abroad for either the autumn semester, spring semester, or a full academic year.
- Overseas Internship Opportunities: Following their study abroad experience, GE3 students may have the opportunity to undertake internships. Although not all member universities offer this service, those that do will assist students in securing internships near the university, within the university, or in other locations.
Benefits and Operation
Through the GE3 program, students can acquire essential foreign language skills, cross-cultural competencies, and professional experience, enabling them to stand out in the globalized business environment of the 21st century. The program's operations are primarily supported by membership fees from participating universities and sponsorships from enterprises.
Participation and Membership
Xiamen University joined the GE3 program in 2011 and has since maintained ongoing student exchange projects with other member universities. The program is part of a broader network of alliances, including the Sea Silk University Alliance, Global Eight University Alliance, ASEAN Plus Three University Alliance, and the Global Engineering Education Exchange Program itself.
