Program Overview
Introduction to the "Global China Studies" 3.5+1 (including 4+1) Joint Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program
The Department of Philosophy at Xiamen University has signed a student joint training agreement with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. This agreement enables our department to recommend qualified undergraduate students to participate in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's "Global China Studies" master's degree program (3.5+1) for the spring 2025 semester.
Basic Information
- Quota: 3 students
- Eligible Year: 2022 level students with excellent academic performance, ranking in the top 50% of their year, and a GPA of 3 (out of 4)
- Language Requirement: Good English proficiency, with a TOEFL iBT score of 100 or a TOEFL paper-based score of 600, or an IELTS overall score of 7.0
- Tuition Fees: HK$160,000 for eight courses (excluding accommodation, personal expenses, books, insurance, and medical fees)
- Accommodation: Students are required to arrange their own accommodation off-campus, with assistance available from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's student accommodation management office
- Program Introduction: The "Global China Studies" master's degree program (3.5+1) is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of China's global role and influence
Selection Process
- Application Submission: Electronic application forms should be submitted by September 16, along with required materials
- Resume Review and Interview: Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview, during which they must present original documents and certificates for verification
- Required Materials:
- Department of Philosophy student exchange program application form
- Personal resume (in Chinese and English)
- Official transcript (with required courses highlighted in red)
- English language proficiency certificate
- Hong Kong University of Science and Technology application form (to be provided after passing the interview)
- Publicity and Submission: The list of recommended candidates will be publicized and submitted to the relevant departments by October 15
New Student Scholarship
Outstanding applicants who are admitted to the program may be eligible for a new student scholarship of up to HK$40,000. The scholarship will be awarded based on factors such as academic performance, overseas experience, awards received, extracurricular activities, and personal statements.
4+1 Joint Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program
The 4+1 joint bachelor's and master's degree program is available for 2022 level undergraduate students. The application process and requirements are the same as those for the 3.5+1 program.
Course Requirements
Students must complete 24 credits of coursework, including three core courses (each worth three credits), one academic writing course (worth three credits), and four elective courses (each worth three credits). The elective courses must cover at least two different subject areas.
