International Training Workshop on Global Ocean Governance in the New Era
The International Training Workshop on Global Ocean Governance in the New Era is organized by Xiamen University Center for Oceans Law and the China Seas and China Institute for Marine Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources. This intensive one-week programme offers a unique and in-depth training series of lectures on the law of the sea and marine & maritime policy.

The programme schedule is as follows:
- September 13:
- 8:30-8:45: Opening Ceremony by Professor ZHANG Haiwen and Professor SHI Yubing
- 8:45-10:00: Topic 1 - Law and Policy of Global Ocean Governance: An Introduction by Associate Professor LUO Gang
- 10:00-11:30: Topic 2 - United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development by Professor QIAO Fangli
- September 14:
- 8:30-10:00: Topic 3 - International Marine Environmental Law by Professor JIANG Xiaoyi
- 10:00-11:30: Topic 4 - Issues related to BBNJ International negotiation by Professor SHI Yubing
- September 15:
- 8:30-11:30: Topic 5 - Dispute Settlement Mechanism under UNCLOS by Professor Michael Sheng-ti GAU
- September 16:
- 8:30-11:30: Topic 6 - A Progressive Development of a Regulatory Regime for Exploration for and Exploitation of Mineral Resources in the International Seabed Area by Professor ZHANG Kening
- September 17:
- 14:00-15:30: Topic 7 - Law and Policy of Arctic Governance by Professor BAI Jiayu
- 15:30-17:00: Topic 8 - Antarctic Governance and the Antarctic Treaty System by Professor ZOU Keyuan
Application
The target audience for this programme is primarily young professionals, policymakers, and academics. Students who wish to broaden their knowledge of the law and policy on global ocean governance are also encouraged to apply. This programme will be conducted in English.
Admission
Applications are accepted on a rolling, first-come, first-served basis until August 30, 2021. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation letter by September 8.
Tuition Fee
This programme is funded by the China Institute for Marine Affairs, Ministry of Natural Resources, and no tuition fee is required.
Certificate
Upon attendance and active participation in the one-week programme, participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
