Program Overview
Introduction to the Lu Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Lu Postdoctoral Fellowship is named after the department's first chair, Professor Jufu Lu. Established in 2022, the mission of the Lu Fellowship is to discover and encourage talented and promising Ph.D. recipients in all areas of astrophysics and provide them with the opportunity to initiate and pursue independent research.
Qualifications
Applicants are expected to have completed the degree requirements for a Ph.D. in astronomy or related fields at the time of appointment, with a demonstrated track record of research. Candidates from all areas of astrophysics will be considered, but priority will be given to those whose research can be closely aligned with the department's current research activities. Fellows are selected based on their academic achievement and the promise of their scientific research.
Terms of Appointment and Benefits
The program appoints up to two new Fellows each year. The initial appointment will be for two years, with a possible renewal for a third year. The preferred starting date is September 2023 or earlier. The fellowship offers a competitive salary compared to the local standard. In addition, all Lu Fellows will receive annual research funding that covers the Fellow's research activities, such as observing, travel, computing, and publications.
