Description

The Department of Geosciences is distinctive because it spans the social and physical dimensions of environmental and resource issues, with a special focus on urban communities. Our faculty have expertise in the social and environmental dimensions of water, environmental geochemistry, and global climate change. We are also expanding our Geographic Information Science research and teaching to better represent and describe the complexity of social and environmental concerns.

Students in the geography concentration can choose from a broad range of courses that prepare them for research or professional careers. Areas of specialization include urban studies, geospatial technologies, or physical geography/environmental studies. Students can choose between a thesis research option or capstone project.

The department offers teaching assistantships to qualified applicants. Applicants are encouraged to inquire about research assistantship opportunities with faculty who match their research interests.

Students will have the opportunity to acquire skills in data collection and analysis, data visualization, and cartography, allowing them to pursue employment in the public or private sector, or to go on to seek a doctoral degree.
