Summer Undergraduate Research Experience
The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE-REU) Program in Biological Mechanisms provides talented undergraduate students with the opportunity to carry out independent research projects under the guidance of faculty mentors. The program aims to recruit a diverse group of students, with preference given to:
- Students in a science major at an undergraduate institution with limited research opportunities
- Students with limited or no past research experience
- GPA 3.0
- Personal Statement
- Minimum of 1 reference letter from a science instructor or mentor
- US citizen or permanent resident
Admission Criteria
Admission to the SURE-REU program is limited to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors. First-generation college students and students from groups under-represented in the sciences are strongly encouraged to apply.
Program Details
The SURE-REU program is a 10-week summer experience where undergraduate students work side-by-side with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty. The program includes:
- Independent research projects
- Journal club and seminar program
- Forums with scientists inside and outside of academia
- Career development and mentoring
- Summer Research Symposium and Poster Session
Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program
The Undergraduate Cancer Research Training Program (UCRTP) is a 12-week summer internship hosted by the Center to Eliminate Cancer Health Disparities. The program provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to gain research experience and training in cancer research.
