Program Overview


Introduction to the Clinical Nutritionist Education Program

The Clinical Nutritionist Education Program is a designated education institution for clinical nutritionists by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. After completing the 4-semester education program and gaining 1 year of work experience, students can take the clinical nutritionist qualification exam administered by the Minister of Health and Welfare.


Purpose of the Clinical Nutritionist Education Program

The purpose of this program is to train professional clinical nutritionists who can accurately assess the nutritional status of healthy individuals and patients, and provide optimal nutritional support for treatment and health maintenance.


Goals of the Clinical Nutritionist Education Program

  1. To cultivate talents with global-level clinical nutrition research capabilities.
  2. To train clinical nutritionists with specialized knowledge and practical experience.
  3. To produce professional clinical nutritionists who can understand and address nutritional problems faced by the country and local communities.

Admission Requirements for the Clinical Nutritionist Education Program

  1. Enrollment capacity: 3 students per year.
  2. Applicants must meet all of the following conditions:
    • Be enrolled in the Graduate School of Yonsei University, Department of Food and Nutrition.
    • Hold a nutritionist license.
    • Pass the document review after applying for the clinical nutritionist education program (including undergraduate nutrition-related credits, official English test scores, and academic and research plans).
    • Pass the admission review by the Clinical Nutrition Education Committee.

Required Courses

  • FNS6847: Medical Nutrition Research (3 credits)
  • FNS6848: Medical Nutrition Therapy 1 (3 credits)
  • FNS6849: Medical Nutrition Therapy 2 (3 credits)
  • FNS6850: Advanced Nutrition (3 credits)
  • FNS6851: Human Pathophysiology (3 credits)
  • FNS6852: Advanced Nutritional Education and Counseling (3 credits)

Practice Courses

  • Medical Nutrition Practice 1-4 (total 8 credits, 480 hours)

Practice Process

The practice course is conducted at affiliated medical institutions, including Severance Hospital and Gangnam Severance Hospital. The practice fee is paid directly by the student, and the amount may vary depending on the institution.


Completion and Qualification Exam Requirements

  1. Completion requirements:
    • Complete 6 required courses.
    • Complete 4 practice courses (480 hours).
    • Complete the clinical nutritionist education program in 2 years or more.
  2. Qualification exam requirements:
    • Hold a nutritionist license.
    • Complete the education program and have 1 year or more of work experience as a nutritionist.
