Introduction to the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program
The Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program is a master's course established in 2008 to foster individuals who can understand and analyze environmental problems from a global perspective and propose concrete methods for solving them. The program aims to educate professionals with competitive skills and translate these skills into concrete action.
Program Overview
The program is designed to address serious environmental problems faced by developing countries, including air pollution, water pollution, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and global warming and climate change. The program recognizes that finding solutions to these problems is not an easy task, as it involves various factors such as health education, development of infrastructure, energy resources security, integration of environmental and economic concerns, and globalization.

Problem Solving Approaches
Systematic education for understanding problems, acquisition of countermeasure techniques, system design, and policy management skills.
Cross-Faculty Education
Students enroll in lectures and seminars provided by the Graduate School of Environmental Studies and the Graduate School of Engineering. Students can also take related lectures offered at the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, the Graduate School of International Development, etc., according to their interests.
International Human Resources Development
Lectures and seminars are provided in English, allowing both international and Japanese students to improve their communication skills and global perspective.
Study Tour
Civil and environmental engineering-related domestic and overseas study tours provide opportunities to visit actual sites and nourish students' ability to identify and solve problems from broad perspectives.
On- and Off-Campus Cooperation
The Global Research Internship is conducted in collaboration with companies, research institutions, overseas universities, and international organizations. Students acquire not only advanced specialized knowledge but also practical know-how.
Program Organization
The Nagoya University Center for Global Environmental Leaders was established in October 2008 to promote university-wide international environmental human resource development, including the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program. The Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies is in charge of this center, and faculty members from the Graduate School of Environmental Studies and the Graduate School of Engineering are involved in the educational program.
Program Eligibility
Students in the following departments are eligible to apply for the Nagoya University Global Environmental Leaders Program:
- Department of Environmental Engineering and Architecture (Sustainable Development Course) in the Graduate School of Environmental Studies
- Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Graduate School of Engineering
Program Goals
The program aims to become a global center of learning where motivated students from Asian and African countries, including Japan, can acquire their accomplishments by deploying various efforts such as providing distinctive curriculum design and student services for them. The program commits itself to fostering people who are able to understand and analyze environmental problems in a global perspective and propose concrete methods for solving problems.
