Background and Establishment

Nagoya University's Graduate School of Science and the University of Edinburgh's College of Science and Engineering have been engaged in joint research and student exchange programs in the fields of physics, chemistry, and life sciences. The collaboration has recently expanded to include educational activities, such as the Doctoral Program Leading Initiative. The Joint Degree Program was established in October 2016 to further develop the research and educational collaboration between the two universities, with the goal of cultivating international leaders in the field of natural sciences.


Program Details

  • The program provides economic support to students, including round-trip airfare to Edinburgh and living expenses during their stay.
  • Students who have already enrolled in the doctoral program can also transfer to the Joint Degree Program after developing their joint research.
