Program Overview
The Programa de Exploración Vocacional (PEV) in Artes Visuales is a special admission program offered by the Departamento de Artes Visuales of the Facultad de Artes at the Universidad de Chile. This program is designed for students in their third and fourth year of high school, as well as young people who have graduated from high school within the last year.
Objectives
The objectives of the PEV program are:
- To expand access to higher education for students with artistic talent or sensitivity.
- To provide an alternative and equitable preparation for admission to the Artes Visuales career.
- To develop key competencies in areas such as color, volume, graphics, and drawing.
- To promote critical observation of the cultural and biographical environment of students.
- To facilitate understanding of the general context of Visual Arts, integrating the study of historical, social, and cultural aspects that influence artistic production.
Target Audience
The PEV program is designed for students in their third and fourth year of high school, as well as young people who have graduated from high school within the last year. The program is open to young people from diverse sociodemographic and economic backgrounds, and no prior knowledge of art is required.
Program Structure
The program is divided into two semesters, covering various practical and theoretical areas:
Semester I
- Introducción a la Superficie: A practical course focused on developing different modes of observation and basic ordering of visual perception.
- Fundamentos de las Artes Visuales: A theoretical course where students will learn about the development of visual arts in their traditional modes (painting, sculpture, drawing, etc.) and other areas where visuality is an essential element.
- Electivo Introductorio 1: Workshops for technical development, where each student will choose the one that best represents their artistic interests.
Semester II
- Introducción al Volumen: A practical workshop aimed at observing, recognizing, and experimenting with the different characteristics of three-dimensionality in the everyday landscape.
- Seminario Procesos de Obra: A theoretical course that introduces students to the creative diversity landscape, with talks and conversations with artists from the Departamento de Artes Visuales.
- Electivo Introductorio 2: Workshops for technical development, where each student will choose the one that best represents their artistic interests.
Admission Criteria
The selection of applicants will be based on the following criteria:
- Carta de motivación: Students must express their interests and motivations for participating in the program.
- Entrevista personal: The capacity for observation, criticism, and sensitivity of the applicant will be evaluated in relation to their environment.
- Presentación de materiales: Students must present sketches, drawings, poems, photographs, videos, or other works that demonstrate their sensitivity and artistic concerns.
Scholarships
Selected students can opt for a socioeconomic evaluation to apply for available scholarships, which cover tuition and full tuition fees. The evaluation for obtaining these scholarships includes a socioeconomic stage (70% of the score) and an interview (30% of the score).
Program Completion and Further Studies
Upon completing the PEV program and passing it in its entirety, students can apply for the Licenciatura en Artes Visuales through the Ingreso de Equidad, meeting the admission requirements set by the Universidad de Chile.
