Master in Theory and History of Art
Description
The Master in Theory and History of Art is a humanistic program whose general objective is to contribute to the development of studies and research in the History of Art, Aesthetics and Theory of Art and Art studies in general. It seeks to develop skills for research in these disciplinary fields, through training that promotes different methodological, theoretical, historiographical and critical perspectives. It promotes the integration of various disciplines in theoretical reflection aimed at understanding the artistic phenomenon in its historical development and its contemporary condition.
Objective
The objective of the program is to contribute to the development of studies and research in Art History, Aesthetics and Theory of Art and Art studies in general.

Study Plan
The Program has an evening regime and a flexible curriculum, with semester-long curricular activities and is expressed in class hours and a credit system. It is face-to-face, so attendance will be mandatory. The Training Plan includes a set of subjects grouped into two lines of specialization: the Art History line and the Aesthetics and Art Theory line, complementary to each other. Both are made up of subjects from the area and other interdisciplinary subjects, which support the methodological and thematic orientation of the two main lines.
Admission Requirements
- Be in possession of a professional title or academic degree with a minimum duration of 8 semesters, conferred by national or foreign universities, whose studies are considered related to the program.
- Present a Curriculum Vitae with the background of training and development of skills related to the field of study and academic activity.
- Present a preliminary thesis project, which demonstrates the abilities to formulate a research problem and proximity to the field of studies.

Tariff
- Total tariff: 216 UF.
- Tuition: 5.2 UF.
Tariff Discounts
- 10% discount for cash payment, to students who document their annual or semiannual fee, until January 30, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
- 25% discount for officials of the University of Chile. To exercise this right, they must have an appointment of no less than 22 hours per week and seniority of more than one year.
