Magíster en Microbiología

The Magíster en Microbiología is part of the Programs of Magíster in areas of Biological and Medical Sciences that aims to deepen the advanced teaching in the basic and applied areas of Medicine, stimulating the development of scientific research.

The main objective of this program is to contribute to the development of high-level human resources that acquire the necessary competencies in the area of Microbiology, to perform different roles in state or private institutions.

The specific objectives are:

• To provide licensed and professional university graduates in the biomedical area and related fields with the opportunity to obtain advanced training in the field of Microbiology, both in its basic areas and in its applications.
• To accredit, with a higher academic degree, the advanced training acquired through a systematic program of postgraduate studies.
• To promote and encourage research in the microbiological area in university professionals in the biomedical area, with the aim of addressing problems of national interest and generating innovative solutions in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases, classical and emerging, respiratory, sexually transmitted, and food-borne diseases, among others.

The profile of graduates is oriented in the framework of the following competencies:

• Resolves microbiological problems in the disciplines of bacteriology, virology, and mycology, relevant to their professional field, and relevant to the country, applying updated techniques.
• Develops and applies new work protocols in the areas of microbiology, which allow improving or updating the diagnosis and/or treatment of infectious diseases.
• Designs new strategies for the microbiological analysis of classical and emerging pathogens in a bioethical context.
• Characterizes the mechanisms of pathogenicity, virulence factors, and genetic determinants of resistance to antimicrobials of bacteria, viruses, and fungi, to contribute to the knowledge and treatment of associated diseases.

Plan de estudios

The plan of studies is designed to provide advanced training in the field of Microbiology, with a focus on the development of research skills and the application of knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.

Requisitos de admisión

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

• Be licensed or professional university graduates in the biomedical area or related fields.
• Have a degree or professional title related to the advanced curriculum they wish to follow.

Postulaciones

Applications are accepted in two periods:

• 1er periodo: Directed to national and international applicants who wish to apply for ANID scholarships or other scholarships.
  • Applications: July 14 to October 10, 2025 (closure of receipt of documents at 12:00 hours)
• 2do periodo: Directed to national and international applicants in general.
  • Applications: October 13 to December 26, 2025 (closure of receipt of documents at 12:00 hours)
