The Magíster en Ciencia Política (Master's in Political Science) is a two-year academic program that aims to provide students with the tools of analysis and knowledge related to the organization and exercise of power in society. The program is designed to help students develop their professional skills and generate competitive bases for doctoral studies.
Description
The program has over 40 years of uninterrupted trajectory, having formed more than 39 cohorts of graduates. It is a comprehensive academic program that seeks to deliver the theoretical and methodological elements of political science, enabling students to acquire and deepen their knowledge of the discipline. The program's mission is to provide students with the necessary tools to analyze and understand the phenomena of political science, as well as to develop their research skills and contribute to the generation of knowledge in the field.
Objectives
The specific objectives of the Magíster en Ciencia Política are:
- To introduce students to the theoretical and methodological elements of political science
- To promote research skills and systematic analysis of problems and topics related to the discipline
- To expose students to the main currents of political thought
- To stimulate the production of knowledge about political aspects of national and international reality
Lines of Research
The program develops four main lines of research:
Teoría Política (Political Theory)
The program offers two core courses in political theory, aiming to teach students the main currents of political thought, from classical to modern and contemporary authors.
Política Comparada (Comparative Politics)
The program provides models and tools for students to analyze comparative politics, understanding the need to acquire knowledge in the scientific area that guides the understanding of political processes, institutions, and actors in different realities.
Subdisciplinas y Cursos Temáticos (Subdisciplines and Thematic Courses)
This line includes a course on Introduction to International Relations, which aims to present the paradigms that explain the international system and deepen the study of the so-called great debates of International Relations.
Trabajo para Fortalecer las Habilidades de Investigación y Análisis (Work to Strengthen Research and Analysis Skills)

Plan of Studies
The Plan of Studies consists of four semesters (two academic years) and includes the realization and approval of a thesis project, which must be known and approved by the Academic Committee and the corresponding Grade Exam.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the program, applicants must submit the following documents:
- Photocopy of identity card or passport
- Declaration letter
- Commitment letter to acquire health insurance (for international applicants)
- Certificate of title or degree
- Official transcript of university studies
- Certificate of ranking
- Letter of intention
- Proposal for a research project
- Transversal knowledge form
- Letters of recommendation
Accreditation
The program is accredited by the Comisión Nacional de Acreditación (CNA-Chile) for two years, from December 7, 2022, to December 7, 2024.
Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the program is $5,309,000 (Chilean pesos) for the evening version.
