The Diploma de PostĒtulo en Direcci¾n Orquestal (Presencial) is a postgraduate program offered by the Facultad de Artes, Universidad de Chile. This program aims to provide basic training in orchestral direction, with an emphasis on the relationship between musical analysis and interpretive decisions.

Program Description

The program is designed for music professionals who want to learn about orchestral direction or are starting to work in this field. It also caters to individuals who have already begun directing orchestras and wish to explore the use of musical analysis to inform their interpretive decisions.

Objectives

The program has two main objectives:

• To provide basic and introductory training in orchestral direction, covering technical, gestural, and theoretical aspects.
• To revise the various activities that an orchestra director can undertake, along with the specific skills and particularities required for each.

Plan of Study

The program consists of several courses or modules, including:

1. Introduction to Musical Form Analysis
2. Introduction to Orchestration
3. Orchestral Repertoire
4. Methodology for Studying Orchestral Repertoire
5. Technique and Gestuality
6. Preparation of Orchestral Repertoire

Target Audience

The program is targeted at professionals in the music field who are interested in learning about or further developing their skills in orchestral direction. This includes those who are initiating activities in this area or those who have some experience and wish to deepen their understanding of how musical analysis can inform their work.

Modalities

The program is offered in a face-to-face modality, with a duration of 324 hours (126 direct hours and 198 indirect hours). Classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 20:30 hours, and Saturdays from 09:00 to 16:00 hours.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, applicants must:

• Hold a professional degree in areas related to music.
• Provide a curriculum vitae.
• Participate in an interview with the program coordinator. Applicants are also expected to have basic knowledge of score reading and harmony, which will be assessed during the interview.

Approval Requirements

To successfully complete the program, participants must:

• Attend at least 75% of all program modules.
• Achieve a passing grade (4.0) in all modules.
• Specifically, pass the module on preparing orchestral repertoire with a grade of 4.0.

Tuition Fees and Discounts

The program's tuition fee is $1,650,000, which is subject to change based on the IPC (═ndice de Precios al Consumidor) and other factors. Discounts are available for:

• University of Chile staff (25% discount).
• Payment in full by March 31 (10% discount) or by April 30 (5% discount).
• Individuals with a service contract in the Facultad de Artes (15% discount).
• University of Chile graduates (10% discount).

Teaching Team

The program is taught by a team of experienced professionals, including:

• Prof. Miguel ┴ngel Castro, Coordinator of the program and a director of orchestras and composer.
• Prof. Eleonora Coloma, with a background in music theory, composition, and philosophy.
• Prof. Javiera Cortķs, a docent and choir director with studies in orchestral direction.
• Prof. MarĒa Teresa Molina, a contrabass player and professor.
• Prof. Jorge Pepi-Alos, a pianist and composer.

The program is organized by the Escuela de Postgrado and the Departamento de M·sica, Facultad de Artes, Universidad de Chile. The tuition fee is subject to change, and the program's opening is contingent upon the number of enrolled participants.
