Program Overview

The Diploma in Curatorial Practices is a postgraduate program offered by the Faculty of Arts at the University of Chile. This program aims to provide students with knowledge about the various fields involved in curatorial practice, allowing them to develop a critical and situated perspective on contemporary culture.

Program Objectives

• General Objective: To provide students with knowledge about the various fields involved in curatorial practice, enabling them to reflect critically on contemporary culture.
• Specific Objectives:
  • Familiarize students with curatorial experiences that work at the intersection of art history and political and cultural history.
  • Provide students with knowledge about curatorial research, museography, collection policies, and mediation systems.
  • Offer students tools for producing curatorial texts.

Program Structure

The program is structured into 5 modules:

1. Arte contemporáneo, globalización y relatos historiográficos (Contemporary Art, Globalization, and Historiographic Narratives)
2. Museografías críticas, políticas de colección y sistemas de mediación (Critical Museography, Collection Policies, and Mediation Systems)
3. Análisis de los dispositivos expositivos (Analysis of Exhibition Devices)
4. Conservación y Documentación (Conservation and Documentation)
5. Seminario (Seminar)

Target Audience

The program is directed at graduates in areas related to the humanities, arts, and social sciences, with basic knowledge of art history and an interest in curatorial practices.

Modalities

• Classes: Synchronous classes via Zoom, with asynchronous activities on the University of Chile's virtual campus.
• Total Hours: 216 hours (96 direct hours and 120 indirect hours).
• Schedule: Evening classes, Mondays and Wednesdays, from 19:00 to 21:30 hours.

Program Approval Requirements

• Approval of all modules with a minimum grade of 4.0.
• Minimum attendance of 75%.

Tuition Fees and Discounts

• Tuition Fee: $1,470,000 (referential value, adjusted according to IPC and subject to changes).
• Discounts:
  • 25% discount for University of Chile staff.
  • 10% discount for payment in full by March 31.
  • 5% discount for payment in full by April 30.
  • 15% discount for individuals providing honorary services at the Faculty of Arts with a current agreement.
  • 10% discount for University of Chile graduates (undergraduate and postgraduate).

Teaching Team

• Paz López: Coordinator of the program, essayist, and academic at the Department of Art Theory, University of Chile.
• Marcelo Expósito: Artist, teacher, essayist, and cultural critic.
• Carol Illanes: Curator and researcher in contemporary Chilean and Latin American art.
• Pamela Navarro: Coordinator of the Conservation and Documentation Unit at the Contemporary Art Museum (MAC).

Guest Lecturers

• Mariairis Flores: Master's degree in Art Theory and History from the University of Chile.
