The Diploma of Postgraduate Studies in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language and Foreign Language (ELE) aims to provide comprehensive training that combines theory and practice, facilitating rapid specialized labor market insertion in the field of teaching Spanish as a second language and foreign language at an initial level.
Program Objectives
This postgraduate diploma offers a critical review of theoretical and methodological approaches that have influenced the teaching and learning of Spanish as a second language or foreign language over time, while providing didactic and practical tools to optimize teaching performance. Participants acquire specialized linguistic knowledge and develop effective methodologies to approach teaching in a professional and efficient manner.
Target Audience
The program is directed at individuals with an academic degree or professional title who are currently working or have prospects of working in the teaching of Spanish as a second language or foreign language.
Program Structure
- The program consists of 10 courses:
- Course 1: Spanish in Chile
- Course 2: Applied Linguistics to Second Language Acquisition
- Course 3: Intercultural Competence
- Course 4: Phonology of the Spanish Language
- Course 5: Evaluation of Communicative Skills in ELE
- Course 6: Methodology Applied to ELE Teaching
- Course 7: Didactics Applied to ELE Teaching
- Course 8: Applied Grammar for ELE Classes
- Course 9: Creation and Adaptation of Didactic Materials for ELE Teaching
- Course 10: Practice Workshop
- The program requires 29 transferable credits and 231 direct chronological hours.
Admission Requirements
To apply, candidates must:
- Hold an academic degree or professional title related to the teaching of Spanish, linguistics, translation, language, and/or teaching of a foreign language.
- Non-native Spanish speakers must certify their command of the language through an international certification of level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or equivalent.
- Present a letter of motivation.
- Undergo an interview with the Academic Coordination of the Diploma.
Application Documents
Each applicant must submit:
- A legalized, verifiable, or apostilled copy of the certificate of title or degree.
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Photocopy of identity card on both sides.
- If applicable, a certificate of demonstrable work experience in the area of teaching Spanish as a second language or foreign language.
- Letter of motivation.
Application Period
The application period is from November 2025 to January 2026.
Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the program is $1,560,000.- Chilean pesos. A 10% discount is available for graduates of the University of Chile.

Graduates of the Teaching Spanish as a Second Language and Foreign Language program possess initial training to carry out teaching processes or professional activities that require specialized knowledge of the teaching and learning of Spanish as a second language or foreign language, from a constructivist and sociocultural perspective.
