Program Overview

The "Métodos Estadísticos para la Investigación en Ciencias Biológicas y de la Salud" (Statistical Methods for Research in Biological and Health Sciences) is a postgraduate diploma program offered by the Instituto de Nutrición y Tecnología de los Alimentos (INTA) at the University of Chile.

Objectives

The program aims to provide students with a deep understanding of statistical methods and their application in biological and health sciences research. The specific objectives are:

• To know the methodological statistical tools most frequently used in scientific research.
• To understand the contribution of statistics in processing, presenting, and analyzing results, and to identify it as a discipline capable of generating useful information for decision-making.
• To develop skills in handling STATA software for data modeling from the health and/or biological sciences area.

Target Audience

The program is directed at individuals interested in evidence-based research, particularly health professionals and those in equivalent careers who develop research activities requiring descriptive and inferential statistical knowledge for adequate analysis and interpretation of information.

Program Structure

The program consists of eight modules, each focusing on a different aspect of statistical methods:

Module I: Investigación Científica y Estadística Descriptiva

• Unidad 1: Método científico
• Unidad 2: Estadísticas descriptivas
• Unidad 3: Distribución normal

Module II: Estimación de Parámetros por Intervalos

• Unidad 1: Estimación de parámetros
• Unidad 2: Estimación de proporciones
• Unidad 3: Estimación de medias

Module III: Pruebas de Hipótesis Clásicas

• Unidad 1: Fundamentos de las pruebas de hipótesis
• Unidad 2: Fundamentos de las pruebas de hipótesis
• Unidad 3: Pruebas de hipótesis para medias

Module IV: ANOVA

• Unidad 1: ANOVA a un factor fijo
• Unidad 2: ANOVA a dos factores fijos

Module V: Estadística No Paramétrica

• Unidad 1: Test no paramétricos para muestras independientes
• Unidad 2: Test no paramétricos para muestras dependientes

Module VI: Correlación y Regresión Lineal Simple

• Unidad 1: Correlación
• Unidad 2: Regresión lineal simple

Module VII: Regresión Lineal Múltiple

• Unidad 1: Regresión lineal múltiple con variables regresoras cuantitativas
• Unidad 2: Regresión lineal múltiple con variables regresoras cuantitativas y cualitativas
• Unidad 3: Análisis de residuos

Module VIII: Regresión Logística

• Unidad 1: Aplicación de regresión logísticas en la salud
• Unidad 2: Modelo de regresión logística

Evaluation

Each module will be evaluated through a control (summative assessment) that considers multiple-choice questions with feedback. Four STATA tasks will be performed, covering:

• Estadística Descriptiva, Intervalos de Confianza y Pruebas de Hipótesis.
• ANOVA y Estadística No Paramétrica.
• Regresión Lineal Múltiple.
• Regresión Logística

Certification

Upon completion, students will receive a Postgraduate Diploma in "Métodos Estadísticos para la Investigación en Ciencias Biológicas y de la Salud" from the Instituto de Nutrición y Tecnología de los Alimentos (INTA) at the University of Chile.

• Copia simple de Título profesional universitario o grado académico
• Copia simple de la Cédula de Identidad o pasaporte

Duration and Credits

The program lasts 5 months, with 272 hours of instruction, equivalent to 10 credits.

The normal program value is $1,300,000 CLP (approximately $1,490.45 USD). Various discounts are available, including:

• Instituciones: 5 alumni 1 free (25% discount)

Modalidad

The program includes synchronous activities through the Zoom platform, requiring a minimum attendance of 80%.
