Program Overview
Diploma of Extension in Greek Thought
Introduction
The Diploma of Extension in Greek Thought is a comprehensive program that aims to provide a broad understanding of Greek philosophy, covering its main references and methodologies. The program is divided into three nuclei: Presocratic Philosophy, Systematic Philosophy, and Hellenistic Philosophy.
Objectives
The objectives of the program are to generate in students a knowledge of Greek thought through a panoramic vision of its development, and to provide a specific understanding of its representatives and legacy. The program also aims to deliver an ordered panorama of what constitutes a corpus and a discipline with outstanding figures and a universal legacy.
Plan of Studies
The program consists of three courses:
- Course I: Presocratic Philosophy
- Logos: philosophy
- The poleis: cultural context
- Anthropos: the work of philosophers
- Course II: Systematic Philosophy
- Plato: philosophy through dialogue
- Aristotle: the first science
- Course III: Hellenistic Philosophy
- The Epicurean school
- The Stoic school
- The development of Neoplatonism and its encounter with Christianity
Classes and Schedule
Classes are held on Saturdays from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm, with two sessions of two hours and an intermediate break.
Target Audience
The program is open to the general public, and anyone interested can apply. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Organization
The program is organized by the Center for Greek, Byzantine, and Neohellenic Studies.
Tuition Fee
The tuition fee for the program is $600,000. It is also possible to take individual courses for $220,000 each.
Payment Methods
The tuition fee can be paid in cash with a bank transfer, in installments with Webpay (credit card payment), or in installments with a promissory note (only for residents in Chile).
Discounts
The following discounts are available:
- 25% discount for University of Chile staff who can prove their status and have a appointment of at least 22 hours a week and more than one year of seniority in the institution.
- 25% discount for students of the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences who can prove their status.
- 25% discount for undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Chile who can prove their status.
- 20% discount for those who have completed and finished diplomas or courses taught by the Center.
- 20% discount for those who are taking two diplomas or courses simultaneously, taught by the Center.
- 15% discount for people over 60 years old who request it and prove their status.
- 10% discount for former students of the University of Chile and the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences who can prove their status.
- 5% discount for cash payment (only for diploma tuition).
