Program Overview


Diploma in Extension on Politics and Society in the Contemporary Arab World

Introduction

The Diploma in Extension on Politics and Society in the Contemporary Arab World is a comprehensive program designed to analyze the politics and society of the Arab world from its internal dynamics and international projection of its political affairs. The program is structured around six thematic units, covering historical periods from the late 19th century to the present day, and a final unit dedicated to case studies of specific countries.


Objectives

The program aims to provide a deep understanding of the Arab world's politics and society, considering its own discourses, categories, structures, and subjectivities. The course is organized into three parts: Thought, Politics, and International Relations, allowing students to comprehend the complexities of the Arab world from multiple perspectives.


Requirements for Admission

To be eligible for the program, applicants must present a request for admission accompanied by the following documents:


  • Certificate of secondary education or professional title
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copy of identification (RUT) on both sides

Program Structure

The program consists of six units:


  1. Nahda: Reform of culture, tradition, and modernity; Wahabism, reformism, modernism, and liberalism.
  2. Colonization: Arab nationalism and local nationalisms; the mandate regime; culture and colonial society.
  3. Cold War: Nationalism, Marxism, and Islamism; Arab regimes, institutions, and ideologies.
  4. 1990s: The end of history from Arab perspectives; the clash of civilizations; interculturality and globalization.
  5. 2000 to present: New Islamist ideologies; Islam, globalization, and interculturality; alliance of civilizations.
  6. Case Studies: In-depth analysis of countries such as Qatar, Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, Algeria, and Lebanon.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for the program is $870,000.

  • 50% discount for undergraduate students, officials, and academics of the University of Chile
  • 40% discount for undergraduate students of the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences
  • 40% discount for those currently taking a diploma course at the Center
  • 25% discount for those who have completed diploma courses or programs at the Center
  • 25% discount for groups from the same cultural or educational organization
  • 5% discount for payment in cash or in certain installments

Duration and Schedule

The program will take place from May 4 to November 18, 2026, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 19:00 to 21:10 hours, and will be conducted online via Zoom.
