Introduction

The Diploma of Extension in Comparative Religions with a mention in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam is a program offered by the Center for Jewish Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities, University of Chile, in conjunction with the Center for Arab Studies at the same faculty.

Description

This diploma program is dedicated to the study of the three major monotheistic religions of Abrahamic origin (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and Buddhism from a cultural perspective. The program emphasizes a non-confessional and plural approach to the study of religion, crossing perspectives and disciplinary views, and an anthropological-cultural approach.

Objectives

The objectives of this program are:

• To understand and appreciate the study of religious phenomena.
• To contribute to a multidisciplinary, interreligious, and multicultural approach to the study of religion.
• To recognize differences and similarities in the religious traditions under study.
• To link people from diverse backgrounds with the multiple connections of the religious phenomenon in a society undergoing intense cultural and valuative change.
• To collaborate in a permanent dialogue between the world of culture, communities of believers, and non-believers, with the idea of contributing democratic and multicultural contents to a new valuative agenda.

Target Audience

The program is aimed at high school graduates, professionals with a technical-professional title or an academic degree, and undergraduate and graduate students.

Participation Requirements

To apply for this diploma, applicants must be in possession of a high school diploma or have a technical-professional title or an academic degree. To enroll in the program, applicants must request a personal interview and fill out an admission form accompanied by the following documents:

• A photocopy of the high school diploma, technical-professional title, or academic degree, as applicable.
• A curriculum vitae with a photograph.

• Introduction to Judaism
• Introduction to Christianity
• Introduction to Islam
• Introduction to Buddhism

II Semester

• Methodology for the study of the religious
• Specialty seminar
• Common seminar
• Thematic module

The program takes place from April 2, 2019, to November 28, 2019, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 pm.

Location

The program is held at the Center for Jewish Studies (Miraflores 579, Santiago Centro).

Value

The program costs include a registration fee of $65,000 and a tuition fee of $650,000.
