Diploma of Extension "Literature for Children, Adolescents, and Youth"

Introduction

The Diploma of Extension "Literature for Children, Adolescents, and Youth" is a specialized program aimed at providing an updated formation in this literature, emphasizing theoretical-critical analysis to impulse new perspectives in the field. The program has an interdisciplinary approach, prioritizing literary and cultural studies to address Latin American literary productions.

Objective

The objective of the diploma is to contribute to the specialized formation of professionals in the area of literature for children, adolescents, and youth, recognizing the complexity and sociocultural impact of this literary discourse.

Structure

The diploma extends from April to November, with classes held on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 21:00 hours, and four additional Saturday sessions from 10:00 to 13:00 hours. The program includes a total of 84 hours of face-to-face classes.

Plan of Studies

The Plan of Studies is divided into two global sections: the General Plan and the Thematic Plan. The General Plan consists of 10 sessions (30 hours) that address fundamental aspects of literature for children, adolescents, and youth. The Thematic Plan comprises 13 sessions and two lectures (45 hours) that delve into specific phenomena in this literature.

General Plan

The General Plan covers the following topics:

• Discursive field of childhood, adolescence, and youth
• Specific problems of this literature: education, market, edition, ideologies, and adultocentrism
• Latin American narrative for children, adolescents, and youth
• Sex-gender construction
• Representation, imaginaries, and identities
• Theory of the image
• Analysis of images in literature for children, adolescents, and youth

Thematic Plan

The Thematic Plan explores the following topics:

• Latin American literature for children, adolescents, and youth
• Chilean illustration
• Chilean theater for children, adolescents, and youth
• Marvelous stories: hypotexts, hypertexts, and myths
• National identity and multiculturalism
• Body and territory: construction of female identity in narrative for adolescents and youth
• Memories of the recent past in narrative for children in the Southern Cone

Teaching Team

The classes are taught by an interdisciplinary group of academics with specialized training and experience in research and teaching in the area of literature for children, adolescents, and youth.

Admission Requirements

Professionals with a degree in Literature, Education, Librarianship, History, Editing, and other related disciplines can apply. Students in their final year of undergraduate studies in the humanities and social sciences may also be considered.

Schedule

• Wednesdays: 18:00 to 21:00 hours
• Saturdays: 10:00 to 13:00 hours (July 27, August 3, September 7 and 14)
