Program Overview


Program Description

The Professional Specialist Title in Bucomaxillofacial Pathology is a postgraduate program offered by the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Chile. This program aims to provide advanced training in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of bucomaxillofacial diseases.


Program Objectives

The program's objectives include:


  • Providing students with a deep understanding of the biological and biochemical basis of bucomaxillofacial pathology
  • Developing skills in the diagnosis and treatment of bucomaxillofacial diseases
  • Fostering research and critical thinking in the field of bucomaxillofacial pathology

Curriculum

The program consists of 19 compulsory courses, divided into four semesters, with a total of 2,808 hours of effective work, equivalent to 104 credits, plus 4 credits in elective courses. The curriculum includes:


  • Basic courses: Anatomical and histological bases of the bucomaxillofacial territory, biological and biochemical bases of bucomaxillofacial pathology, and microbiology and immunology applied to bucomaxillofacial pathology
  • Clinical courses: General and systemic pathology applied to bucomaxillofacial pathology, pathology of the oral mucosa and salivary glands, clinical oncology applied to bucomaxillofacial pathology, and pharmacological and surgical management in bucomaxillofacial pathology
  • Histopathology courses: Laboratory of anatomical pathology, histopathology I-IV
  • Transversal courses: Psychology of health, legal and ethical odontology

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:


  • Hold a degree in dentistry or a related field
  • Meet the specific requirements outlined in the program's admission criteria
  • Pass a selection process, which includes an evaluation of their CV, a written exam, and a personal interview

Selection Process

The selection process consists of:


  • Evaluation of the applicant's CV (60% of the total score)
  • Personal interview (20% of the total score)
  • Written exam (20% of the total score)

Tuition Fees

The annual tuition fee for the program is $9,395,531 Chilean pesos, equivalent to 237 UF (Unidad de Fomento). A 10% discount is available for University of Chile alumni.
