Program Overview


Diploma in Professional and Labor Development in Macroeconomics

The Diploma in Professional and Labor Development in Macroeconomics is designed for professionals from various fields who wish to acquire or strengthen their knowledge in economics. It is aimed at individuals with a genuine interest in understanding the fundamentals of macroeconomics, even if they do not have prior training in the field. This diploma provides a unique opportunity to level up and deepen studies in the area. In addition to providing a solid foundation in different areas of economics, the professional extension diplomas also serve as a means of access to the master's programs of the Department of Economics at the University of Chile.


Objective of the Program

The objective of this diploma is to familiarize students with the basic theories that explain the aggregate behavior of the economy. It delves into aspects such as consumption, investment, fiscal policy, supply and demand equilibrium, and short-term fluctuations. Through a theoretical macroeconomics approach, it relates current national and international situations to understand the functioning of macroeconomics and participate in discussions on macroeconomic policy.


Academic Direction

  • Eugenia Andreasen: Doctor in Economics from the European University Institute. Since 2020, she has been an assistant professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Chile and is the director of the Master's in Economic Analysis. Her research focuses on macroeconomics, international finance, and macroprudential policies. She has published in high-impact journals and worked on various research and consulting projects for organizations such as the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank. Currently, she is one of the experts in the Monetary Policy Group. Previously, she was a professor at the University of Santiago and director of its Master's program in Economics.
  • Melanie Saavedra: External consultant for the Inter-American Development Bank and research assistant at the Center for Public Systems. She is a Commercial Engineer with a mention in Economics and has a master's degree in Economics from the University of Chile. She has experience teaching courses in microeconomics, applied economics, and industrial organization at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile. Her research areas include health, mental health, education, and gender.
