Program Overview


Master of Science in Economic Analytics

The Master of Science in Economic Analytics is a cutting-edge program that combines economic theory with advanced data analysis skills. By integrating applied microeconomics, econometrics, statistics, data scraping, machine learning, and sophisticated analytics techniques, this program provides a powerful toolkit for making data-driven economic decisions. Whether you aspire to be a professional economist, a business data scientist, or a strategic advisor, you will develop the skills to analyze complex data and drive important decisions.


Course Requirements

  • Six core courses and four elective courses.
  • Rigor: The six core classes provide a complete foundation in economics, statistics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, advanced data skills, and research applications.
  • Flexibility: The four electives provide the flexibility to create a unique curriculum that meets your desires in managerial decision-making, finance, health, environmental, law, policy, and many others.
  • Scheduling Options: This program typically begins in the Fall semester. It can be completed in as little as two semesters, but classes can be spread over three or more semesters.

Enhance your graduate studies with an optional, 6-credit internship, providing hands-on experience with leading technology, financial, and manufacturing companies. These internships offer a unique opportunity to apply your economic and analytical skills in a professional setting. You can take advantage of this opportunity to expand your network, strengthen your resume, and apply classroom knowledge in an actual business environment. The economics department has partnered with several finance and data analytics firms to provide readily available internships.

Bachelor-to-Master's Program

Clemson economics majors can begin graduate coursework during their undergraduate degree and count it toward the M.A. in Economics. This option allows motivated students to get a head start on their master's and reduce the time to completion.


  • Available to Clemson economics majors (B.A. or B.S.).
  • Up to 12 graduate credit hours may be taken as an undergraduate.
  • Students with a GPA of 3.0 and 90 completed credits can take master's credits and apply to the master's program.
  • Students with a GPA of 3.4 and 90 credits can file a GS6 Bachelor-to-Graduate form and automatically be accepted into the master's program upon graduation.
  • Each semester, undergraduates must file a GS6 enrollment in a graduate course form.

Admission Requirements

The program takes a broad view of applicants. There are no limits on the number of students that can be accepted. Students accepted into the program have demonstrated the preparation and ability to be successful.


  • A four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Intermediate microeconomics and earned 3.0 or above.
  • A statistics course and earned 3.0 or above.
  • A univariate and multivariate calculus and earned 3.0 or above.
  • Students who have not achieved all the above will still be considered, but students need to then provide evidence that they will be successful in the program.

Application Process

To apply for admission to the M.S. in Economic Analytics program, please follow these instructions.


  1. Complete official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
  2. A personal statement that includes the applicant's reasons for pursuing a master's degree and why they believe their preparation is sufficient to be successful.
  3. Two letters of recommendation should be from academic sources for undergraduate applicants. For currently employed applicants, please include one academic and one employment reference.
  4. A curriculum vitae or resume.
  5. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are typically required; however, this requirement can be waived for economics majors with GPAs of at least 3.6.

Tuition

In-state tuition for full-time graduate students is $5,750 per semester, and out-of-state tuition is $11,965 per semester. All full-time students will pay $713 per semester in fees. Part-time students will pay $793 per credit if they are residents of South Carolina and $1,588 per credit for non-residents.


Financial Aid

Unfortunately, the M.S. in Economic Analytics program does not offer grading, research, or teaching assistantships. Additionally, scholarships, fellowships, and tuition waivers are unavailable for M.S. students in this program.
