Introduction to the Sport Management Program

The Bachelor in Sport Management (BSM) program is a business-oriented program that focuses on the managerial and organizational aspects of sport. This program is offered exclusively at the Markham campus and introduces students to creativity and innovation in the world of recreational, amateur, and professional sport.

Program Overview

The program provides students with foundational knowledge of sport management as a profession, including sport innovation and entrepreneurship, sport leadership, sport communications and community relations, sport analytics, and e-sport. Students will develop skills and knowledge relevant to evolving sport management practices.

What You Will Learn

• Gain foundational knowledge of sport management as a profession
• Lead sport innovation and change initiatives in recreational, amateur, and professional sports
• Draw on sport management fundamentals, including legal, economic, financial, sociological, and psychological insights, to respond to industry challenges

Hands-on Experience

• The experiential education component includes strategic management, marketing, or finance and accounting projects
• It also includes two employer and community-focused, hands-on learning opportunities

Faculty

The program is led by experienced faculty members, including:

• Dr. Sarah Zipp, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for Sport Management, with expertise in sport for social good, gender equality, globalization, sport policy, and social issues in sport
• Dr. David Doorey, Professor of Law, specializing in labour and employment law and labour relations, with research interests in sports collective bargaining and player representation
• Dr. Daniel Wigfield, Assistant Professor of Sport Management, with research focusing on organizational theory as it relates to the management of sport organizations and systems
