Program Overview
Program Information
The African Studies Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the African continent and its diverse cultures, histories, and societies.
Admission Criteria
To apply to the African Studies Program, students must first contact the Office of Admissions regarding their interest in becoming a York student. Admission requirements, transfer credits, deadlines, and more information can be found on the university's website.
Program Requirements
Students who wish to change their program or major must refer to the Program Change page for more information. To begin the process, students must connect with the African Studies academic advisor, who will guide them through the process and advise on degree requirements.
Degree Options and Requirements
The Degree Options and Requirements page provides information on the program's requirements and options. Students can also obtain a study plan/checklist from this page.
Course Information
The program offers various courses, which can be found on the York Courses website and the program's Courses page. Students who are already enrolled in a course may have the opportunity to change their tutorial section online through the Registration and Enrolment Module (REM), if there are available spots in the new tutorial section and it is before the last date to add a course without permission of instructor.
Course Enrollment
If a course is full, students can monitor the course for its availability. Students should keep trying to enroll before the "last date to enroll without permission of course instructor" deadline. After this deadline, students should speak with the course director to seek permission into the course.
Transfer Credits
Students may have credits from another university transferred to York, but must first have the course approved by the Undergraduate Program Director. Students should complete a Letter of Permission form and submit it to the UPD along with the course description, institution, and syllabus if possible.
