Introduction to the Criminal Justice Management and Leadership Undergraduate Certificate

The Criminal Justice Management and Leadership Undergraduate Certificate is designed to provide a theoretical and practical knowledge base for students seeking to advance their careers in criminal justice agencies. This certificate program requires 15 credit hours of undergraduate coursework and can be completed online.

Program Description

Management and Leadership skills are essential for personnel seeking to move into positions of authority within criminal justice agencies across local, state, federal, and international jurisdictions. Leaders of these agencies should be prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century regarding administration of human resources, personnel supervision, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, and fiscal management including budgeting and planning.

Admission Requirements

• Undergraduate degree-seeking student

Certificate Requirements

• Students are required to take courses as specified below and declare the Certificate.
• Students must earn a grade of "C" or better in each course in the certificate program.

Prerequisite Courses

• There are no certificate program prerequisites; however, individual courses may have prerequisites.

  • Required Courses
    • Complete the following:
      • CJE4352 - Policy Development in Law Enforcement (3)
      • CJE4572 - Justice Agency Operations (3)
      • CCJ3450 - Criminal Justice Management and Liability Issues (3)
      • CCJ3667 - Victims and the CJ System (3)
  • Restricted Electives
    • Complete at least 1 of the following:
      • PAD3003 - Public Administration in American Society (3)
      • PAD4104 - Administrative Theory (3)
      • PAD4204 - Fiscal Management (3)
      • PAD4414 - Human Resource Administration (3)

Other Requirements

• A minimum overall GPA of 2.0 is required in courses used to satisfy the certificate.
• At least 12 hours used in the certificate must be earned at UCF within the department
• No credit by exam (TSD, Military credit) may be used.
• Internship or Independent Study credit may not be used toward the certificate.
• Course substitutions must be approved by both departments in advance.
