Program Overview

Introduction to the Soar Success Program

The Soar Success Program at the University of Central Florida is a dynamic on-campus initiative designed to support first-time-in-college students in their transition to university life. This invitation-only program offers a unique opportunity for students to build a strong foundation before the fall semester begins, focusing on academic preparedness and equipping students with essential skills and knowledge to navigate higher education successfully.

Program Overview

The Soar Success Program is a six-week in-person experience that immerses students in academic courses and structured activities designed to boost their confidence and competence in college-level academics. Students enroll in two courses while participating in the program, which includes workshops, study groups, and personalized academic support. The program aims to develop key skills in critical thinking, time management, and other areas vital to academic success.

Program Components

The Soar Success Program includes several key components:

  • Summer Courses: Students enroll in two courses, one selected from the UCF General Education Program (GEP) and the other being SLS 1501, Strategies for Learning Success at UCF.
  • Academic Support: Soar students are provided with tailored academic support designed to complement their coursework and enhance their overall learning experience.
  • Peer Mentoring: Each Soar student is paired with a dedicated peer mentor who provides personalized guidance and fosters a sense of belonging.
  • Friday Fuel Ups: These are interactive co-curricular activities designed to introduce essential campus resources and services, empowering students to navigate university life with confidence.
  • Student Success Conference: A mandatory conference that provides an opportunity for students to gain valuable knowledge, network with peers, faculty, and industry professionals, and build connections that can support their growth and success at UCF.

Program Requirements and Expectations

To enroll in the Fall term, Soar Program participants must:

  • Complete two summer courses with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Not receive more than 2.5 absences.
  • Actively participate in all required program activities.
  • Attend the Student Success Conference in Fall.

Academic Support and Resources

Soar Program participants have access to structured academic support sessions directly linked to their summer courses, led by trained UCF students. These sessions are designed to reinforce course material and provide students with the tools necessary for long-term academic success.

Cost and Financial Aid

The estimated cost for the Summer B term includes tuition fees, with rates varying for Florida residents and non-Florida residents. Students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA application for summer and fall aid to apply for financial assistance.

Housing and Orientation

Soar students can apply for on-campus housing for Summer, Fall, and Spring terms. A special orientation session is designated for Soar students, where they will receive their class schedule and attend a program overview session.

Preparation and Weekly Schedule

To prepare for the Soar Program, students should review the program website, accept the program offer, and complete necessary forms and applications. The weekly schedule typically includes classes and activities from Monday to Thursday, with occasional Friday activities.
