Relaxation Training with Biofeedback
Program Overview
Introduction to Biofeedback Training
The Biofeedback training program utilizes sensors placed on the body to provide various readings, which are displayed on a computer screen. These readings can measure skin temperature, muscle tension, heart rate, and sweat produced, offering valuable feedback to individuals undergoing relaxation techniques.
How Biofeedback Works
As the therapist coaches individuals through relaxation techniques, subtle changes in the body's responses and behaviors are noticed on the screen. These changes, although initially imperceptible, signal the individual to continue practicing, ultimately leading to the development of automatic relaxation responses.
Uses of Biofeedback
Biofeedback is employed for relaxation training and stress management purposes. Additionally, it can be utilized by educators to enhance functioning and by clinicians to treat various disorders, including:
- Anxiety
- Migraine headaches
- Tension headaches
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Non-cardiac chest pain
- Pain resulting from improperly functioning muscles in the jaws, shoulders, back, and other areas
Application of Biofeedback at UCF
At the University of Central Florida (UCF), Biofeedback is used specifically for relaxation training and stress management purposes, highlighting its potential to bring relief and improvement to a range of conditions.
