Program Overview


Pediatric Voiding Improvement Program

The Pediatric Voiding Improvement Program, or VIP, is designed to help children with various clinical problems related to urinary incontinence and other urological issues.


Clinical Problems Addressed

The program addresses the following clinical problems:


  • Daytime urinary incontinence (enuresis)
  • Nighttime urinary incontinence (enuresis)
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Vesicoureteral reflux
  • Urine holding
  • Stress incontinence

Multidisciplinary Team

The clinic is composed of a multidisciplinary team, including:


  • A pediatric urologist
  • A pediatric nurse practitioner
  • A pediatric behavioral psychologist
  • A pediatric clinical nurse

This team shares in the development and implementation of a specific treatment plan for each child.


Treatment Procedures

Visits are scheduled for one hour and generally include a combination of treatment procedures, such as:


  • Bladder ultrasound for measurements of urine volumes pre- and postvoid
  • Urine culture
  • Medication management
  • Biofeedback for pelvic muscle retraining
  • Establishment of voiding routine
  • Assessment of barriers to adherence
  • Nutrition education
  • Behavior therapy
  • Relapse prevention recommendations

Progress Evaluation

Progress is evaluated at each visit and communicated to the child's primary care doctor.
