Program Overview
Speech-Language Pathology Advanced ICU Fellowship
The Speech-Language Pathology Advanced ICU Fellowship is an intensive program designed to provide advanced practice experience and mentorship in the evaluation and treatment of ICU patients. The goal of this fellowship is to offer support for speech-language pathologists to work toward completion of the Board Specialty Certification in Swallowing.
Duration and Application
- Duration: 12 months
- Application period: December 1, 2025 - March 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. EST
- Program start: August 2026
Prerequisites
The fellowship is designed for speech-language pathologists who have:
- Completed their clinical fellowship
- A certificate of clinical competency from ASHA
- Are eligible for Maryland state license
- Are eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by the PMR department
Fellowship Features
- Clinical evaluation and treatment experience in the areas of motor speech, language, cognition, swallowing, tracheostomy management, speech-generating devices, and alternative communication
- Didactic experience, including surgery observations, participation in multidisciplinary rounds, weekly swallowing conference, and monthly journal club meetings
- Modified Barium Swallow Impairment Profile certification
- Participation in scholarly activities, including case presentations, multidisciplinary education, and research projects, with the opportunity to present at a conference or submit for publication
- Participation in quality improvement and research activities
- Opportunities to submit posters and/or publications at regional or national conferences
