Introduction to the Johns Hopkins Academic Women's Health Fellowship Track in General Internal Medicine

The Johns Hopkins Academic Women's Health Fellowship Track in General Internal Medicine (GIM) aims to train women's health providers to deliver exceptional, comprehensive care for women and become academic leaders in the field of women's health.

Program Overview

The women's health fellowship is one of the fellowship tracks housed within the GIM Fellowship, one of the nation's premier fellowship training programs in academic general internal medicine. The GIM Fellowship has produced more than 140 alumni who have made their marks as clinicians, researchers, educators, and leaders.

Longitudinal Clinical Curriculum

Clinical women's health fellows will partake in a one-year longitudinal curriculum in clinical women's health. The clinical curriculum includes:

  • Longitudinal curriculum on core women's health topics
  • Providing women's health consultations
  • Providing primary care for women
  • Rotating through subspecialties with women's health experts (including obstetrics and gynecology, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, oncology, dermatology, obesity, urology, pelvic floor physical therapy, psychiatry, and more)
  • Pursuing certification to become a Menopause Society Certified Practitioner (MSCP)

Education and Research Tracks

Applicants interested in either medical education or clinical research focused on women's health can apply to the appropriate track:

  • Medical Education Track: Fellows will gain additional expertise in curriculum development and teaching skills for women's health and pursue education scholarship on women's health topics. They will teach women's health topics to medical students and residents and continue to provide longitudinal and consultative care for women.
  • Clinical Research Track: Fellows will work with a research mentor to pursue scholarly work around women's health research topics and continue to provide longitudinal and consultative care for women.
