Construction Management Program

The Construction Management program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the construction industry. The program covers various aspects of construction management, including construction methods, building codes, construction safety management, and construction accounting and financial management.

• CMT 2200 Soils and Foundations: This course covers the basic soil engineering properties, classification system, phase diagram, relationship between density and moisture content, and how it determines foundation design.
• CMT 3000 Construction Estimating and Bidding: This course covers the fundamental cost estimating principles, processes, and methods used in residential and commercial construction.
• CMT 3010 Introduction to Construction Management: This course provides an overview of the construction industry, including the processes involved in construction projects from conception to final delivery.
• CMT 3020 Residential and Commercial Land Development and Design: This course covers the role and responsibilities of a developer, financing strategies, and new trends in lending, as well as technical processes such as surveying, conceptual drawing, site planning, engineering, and design.
• CMT 3030 Construction Safety Management: This course covers construction safety and health management, including construction injury and fatality statistics, humanitarian, legal, and economic justification for safety, and accident causation and control theories.
• CMT 3040 Building Codes: This course covers the requirements of regulatory agencies pertaining to the construction industry, including the current International Building Code and other regulations.
• CMT 3050 Construction Accounting and Financial Management: This course covers the successful management of finances of construction projects and companies, including accounting systems, financial statements, overhead, and profits.
• CMT 3070 Introduction to Green Construction: This course covers sustainable or green-building design and construction, including the efficient use of resources to create healthier and more energy-efficient buildings.
• CMT 3080 Advanced Computers in Construction: This course covers the advanced applications of MS Excel software in estimating and financial management of construction projects.
• CMT 4050 Construction Methods: This course provides an overview of construction practices in the industry, including the processes and equipment involved in construction projects from conception to final delivery.
• CMT 4200 Senior Project: This course is a capstone project that requires senior students to work in teams and apply the skills, knowledge, techniques, and concepts learned in the program.
• CMT 5030 Facilities and Management Principles: This course provides an introduction to Facilities Management, including the facility lifecycle, strategic, master, and annual planning cycles.
• CMT 5060 Planning and Scheduling: This course provides an overview of the principles needed to successfully manage the time schedule of construction projects using Primavera P5.
• CMT 5070 Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings: This course covers the principles and applications of basic mechanical and electrical systems, including design examples and emerging technology and environmental issues.
• CMT 5080 Construction Management Law: This course introduces students to the legal responsibilities, risks, and rights inherent in the professional practice of construction management.
• CMT 7020 Construction Safety Management: This course covers building the safety culture, establishing accountability for safety, working with contractors, hazard prevention and control, and the steps to identify OSHA requirements.
• CMT 7030 Building Information Modeling: This course focuses on improving skills in Revit and Navisworks while using advanced knowledge of the construction industry to manipulate models and create deliverables.
• CMT 7040 Lean Construction Management: This course introduces students to the LEAN-SIX SIGMA philosophy, tools, and practices as they relate to real-world issues in the construction industry.
• CMT 7050 VR Technologies in Construction Management: This course provides hands-on experience with VR technology and research on different products to understand the limitations of the software and which companies are proving to have an edge on the competition.
• CMT 7060 Risk Management in Construction: This course covers topics related to project risk management, including project risks and opportunities, plan risk analysis, implement risk responses, and construction risk register templates and tools.
• CMT 7070 Construction Cost Estimating: This course provides an in-depth analysis of cost estimates, including budget estimates, preconstruction services estimates, subcontractor work estimates, and bid preparation.
