Program Overview

Master of Science in Information Technology

The Master of Science in Information Technology is a graduate program designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of information technology and its applications. The program is offered by the Knight Foundation School of Computing and Information Sciences at Florida International University.


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:


  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, computer engineering, or a similar field from a regionally accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in any field from a regionally accredited institution plus 3 years of information technology work experience.
  • A 'B' average or better in all coursework attempted while registered as an upper-division student in the bachelor's program (3.0 on a 4.0 scale).
  • For applicants whose native language is not English, English proficiency exam scores of at least 550 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL, 6.5 on the IELTS or 110 on the Duolingo.

Application Process

The application process involves two steps:


  1. Apply Online: Submit the online graduate application and associated fees.
  2. Submit Official Documents: Mail official documents, including transcripts, course-by-course evaluation, and test scores, to the Office of Admissions.

Program Requirements

    • CEN 5087 Software and Data Modeling
    • CIS 5372 Fundamentals of Computer Security
    • CIS 5027 Computer Systems Fundamentals
  • Track Courses: 6 credits (choose one track: software, security, system administration, or networking)
  • Elective Courses: 15 credits (choose from SCIS's graduate course offerings)

Tracks

The program offers four tracks:


  • Software Track: Prepares students for software systems development projects.
  • Security Track: Equips students with fundamental knowledge and skills in information security and privacy.
  • System Administration Track: Prepares students to install, support, and maintain servers or other computer systems.
  • Networking Track: Educates individuals seeking employment in hardware and/or software companies, service providers, or regulatory agencies.

The estimated cost per credit hour for a graduate-level course is $455.64 for Florida residents and $1001.69 for non-Florida residents. The estimated total cost for a full-time student is $14,446.76 for Florida residents and $30,828.26 for non-Florida residents.

Most of the professors are amazing, there's clubs for everything, classes that range from odd to amazing and everything in between. They keep adding to MMC making new buildings, bringing in new vendors, and creating new art.

It's an awesome campus. Everyone is nice and helpful. It's not loud. The students are very chill. There are students of all ages and backgrounds, from the 20s to 30s to the 40s to the 50s...you get the jist. Anyway, there are many international students as well. I like that everything is there for the students. All kinds of activities, restaurants and more importantly help. There is help for anything and everything they need. They have free private counseling for anyone that needs it. They make sure that each student takes a mandatory training session on identifying someone in need or danger. They are big on safety for sure. It's a good place. It's expensive but think about all they offer. My fave part, the have some of the best professors. I'm in Creative Writing and many of my professors are Published Authors!
