Program Overview
Introduction to the 7-Year BS/M.D. Accelerated Pathway Program
The 7-year (3+4) BS/M.D. program is designed for outstanding high school students interested in attending medical school at Florida International University. This program is a collaboration between the College of Arts, Sciences & Education, Honors College, and Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, allowing exceptional students to earn both a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences and a Doctor of Medicine in seven years.
Program Overview
The program enables students to complete their undergraduate portion as biology majors and Honors College students. Before the fourth year, students must complete all required courses and fulfill all other requirements, besides science elective courses, which will be taken in their first year at the College of Medicine.
The First Three Years
Students will complete the program's undergraduate portion as biology majors and Honors College students. They will apply to the College of Medicine via the American Medical College Application Service in their third year. The Department of Biological Sciences, Honors College, and College of Medicine will collaborate to oversee students' progress in meeting course requirements for their first three years.
Fourth Year and Beyond
Students will complete the fourth year of the program as first-year medical students at the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and earn a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences after completing the first year of medical school.
