Program Overview


English Education Program

The English Education program at Miami Dade College is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in English literature, language, and pedagogy.


Degree

The program offers a Bachelor of Arts in English Education with ESOL and Reading Endorsements.


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Complete an Associate in Arts (AA) degree
  • Complete all prerequisites with a grade of C or higher
  • Have a cumulative Transfer GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Complete the FTCE (General Knowledge Test), a state-mandated requirement for admission to teacher preparation programs

Special Notes

  • MAC 1105 (College Algebra) is not required for this program. Instead, students should select MGF or STA courses that satisfy the AA requirements.
  • Certain courses are strongly recommended to deepen discipline knowledge and enhance writing skills in preparation for upper division courses. These include:
    • DEP 2000 Human Growth and Development
    • ENG 2012 Literary Theory

The following courses are prerequisites for the program:


  1. ENC 1101 English Composition 1
  2. ENC 1102 English Composition 2
  3. SPC 2608 Introduction to Public Speaking
  4. EDF 1005 Introduction to the Teaching Profession
  5. LIT 2000 Introduction to Literature (or AML 2010 American Literature 1, or ENL 2012 English Literature 1)
