Program Overview

Hospitality and Tourism Management Program

The Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management offers a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management degree. This program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the hospitality and tourism industry.


Degree Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management degree is available with the following majors:


  • Beverage Management
  • Cruise Line Management
  • Event and Entertainment Management
  • General Hospitality Management
  • Hospitality Leadership
  • Hotel and Lodging Management
  • Restaurant and Culinary Management
  • Travel and Tourism Management

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must:


  • Complete an Associate in Arts (AA) degree
  • Complete all prerequisites with a grade of C or higher
  • Have a cumulative Transfer GPA of 2.0 or higher

Special Notes

  • MAC 1105 (College Algebra) is not required for this program. Students should select MGF or STA courses that satisfy the AA.
  • The additional lower division courses listed below are required for this program, while the strongly recommended courses satisfy upper division requirements for Hospitality Management majors.

Prerequisites

The following prerequisites are required for the program:


  1. ECO 2013 Principles of Economics (Macro) (preferred)
    • Alternatively, ECO 2023 Principles of Economics (Micro) can be taken
  2. HFT 1000 Introduction to Hospitality

Additional Lower Division Courses

The following additional lower division courses are required:


  1. HFT 1210 Human Resources
    • Alternatively, HFT 1220 Communication/Supervisory Development can be taken
  2. HFT 2449 E-Business for the Hospitality Industry
  3. HFT 2421 Managerial Accounting
    • Alternatively, ACG 2021 + ACG 2021L Financial Accounting + Lab or ACG 2001 + ACG 2001L Accounting 1 + Lab and ACG 2011 + ACG 2011L Accounting 2 + Lab can be taken

The following courses are strongly recommended:


  1. HFT 2410 Front Office Procedures and Lodging Operations*
