Program Overview

The Nepal study abroad program is a two-semester program that explores the history, culture, and geography of Nepal. The program consists of two courses: IDH 4007, which takes place in the Spring semester, and IDH 4008, which takes place in the Summer semester.

Course Focus

The program focuses on the following areas:

• History, Culture, & the Arts
• Philosophy and Religion
• Politics and Society
• Global Issues and Social Justice
• Nature and Environment

Program Structure

The program is structured into two semesters:

• IDH 4007: Takes place in the Spring semester and is the pre-travel class on campus.
• IDH 4008: Takes place in the Summer semester and is the class abroad. The total number of credits for the program is 6.

Program Highlights

The program highlights include:

• Meeting flora and fauna in Chitwan National Park
• Exploring the city of Pokhara and its museum and caves
• Connecting with students at Tribhuvan University and local schools
• Exploring the Hanuman Dhoka Palace and Kumari Ghar in Kathmandu
• Touring the Swayambhunath Stupa, Bouddhanath, Pashupatinath temples, and more in Kathmandu

What is Not Included

The program does not include:

• International airfare to/from Kathmandu, Nepal
• $195.00 Education Abroad administrative fee (OEA Fee)
• FIU in-state tuition (6 credits, $205.57 per credit)
• Passport, visa, and other necessary documents
• Personal expenses, including but not limited to meals, laundry, etc.
• Additional tips to guides, porters, drivers, and other field staff as a token of appreciation

The itinerary is subject to change and includes visits to:

• Kathmandu
• Pokhara
• Jomsom
• Marpha
• Sirubari
• Chitwan National Park

Faculty Director

The Faculty Director for the program is Dr. Prem Chapagain, a Professor in the Department of Physics at Florida International University. Dr. Chapagain specializes in biological physics and has extensive research experience in biomolecules, protein aggregation, and antimicrobial compounds.

• 1st Payment (Deposit): $500
• 2nd Program Payment: $875
• Spring 2026 In-State Tuition: $616.71
• 3rd Program Payment: $875
• Education Abroad Fee: $195
• Summer A 2026 In-State Tuition: $616.71
