Program Overview
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering is a graduate program that offers concentrations in Data Processing, Energy Cybersecurity, Nanotechnology, Nuclear, Power and Energy, and RF and wireless communications. This program prepares students for continued Ph.D. work, entry into the workforce, entrepreneurial and consulting opportunities.
Admission Requirements
- Application deadline:
- Masters domestic applicants and applicants on a valid visa: March 1 for Summer, June 1 for Fall, October 1 for Spring
- Masters/Certificate applicants not on a valid visa: December 1 for Summer, February 15 for Fall, August 1 for Spring
- Applicant must have a bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or mathematics from an accredited institution, or a bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of one year of work experience in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or technology.
- GPA score of 3.0 or higher in either the overall undergraduate degree or the last 60 credit hours.
- GRE is currently not required.
- Applicants from science areas other than electrical or computer engineering will be expected to complete sufficient background material at the undergraduate level prior to unconditional acceptance into the graduate program.
- Applicants must submit all required documents, including letters of recommendation (3), resume, and letter of intent.
- International students must have a bachelor's degree equivalent to a US degree or from a comparable institution and must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) if English is not their native language. Minimum required score is 550 on the paper-based test (PBT TOEFL), or 80 on the iBT TOEFL, or 6.5 overall on the IELTS test.
Program Requirements
Thesis Option
- The Thesis Master's program consists of 24 semester credit hours of course work, a minimum of 6 semester credit hours of Master's Thesis, and a final examination that includes an oral defense of the thesis.
- 24 semester credit hours of technical course work, with a minimum of 12 hours of 6000-level course credit and a minimum of 9 hours at the 6000 level in Electrical Engineering.
- 6 semester credit hours of EEL 6971 - Master's Thesis.
- Student must pass the final oral examination.
Non-Thesis Option
- Students may choose the non-thesis option for their master's degree.
- The student must complete:
- 6 semester credit hours of electrical engineering math courses from the following:

Additional Program Requirements
- Pass/Fail courses do not count toward degree requirement.
- Student may take up to 9 semester credit hours of STEM courses from other departments with Graduate Program Director's approval.
- No more than 6 graded semester credit hours of Special Topics courses.

Additional Degree Requirements
The degree will be conferred when the following conditions have been met:
- Recommendation of the advisor and faculty of the Department.
- Certification by the Dean of the College that all requirements of the degree being sought have been completed.
- A GPA of at least 3.0 has been earned for required courses.
- Met the undergraduate deficiencies, if any existed in the student's graduate program, as additional courses toward the degree.
- Completed the required semester hours of graduate-level credit (not more than 6 graduate semester hours with a grade of "B" or higher can be transferred from other accredited institutions).
- Students must maintain an overall GPA of 3.0. No grade below "C" will be accepted in a graduate program.
- Complied with all University policies and regulations.
Tuition
In the 24-25 academic year, the cost per credit hour for a graduate-level course is $455.64 for Florida residents and $1,001.69 for non-Florida residents. The M.S. in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering consists of 30 credit hours. The estimated total cost for a full-time student is $14,446.76 for Florida residents and $30,828.26 for non-Florida residents. These estimates do not include online course fees. Student Stories
From Turkey studying in Florida It is one of the largest university campuses I have ever been to as I struggled to find the places that I needed to be multiple times. Food choices are great, library is phenomenal, and water fountains are very pleasing to sit by. SASC Building has very interesting architecture.
Studying in Florida I went here for my undergrad back several years ago and came back for my graduates. This university is a blast of culture and learning. Most of the professors are amazing, there's clubs for everything, classes that range from odd to amazing and everything in between. They keep adding to MMC making new buildings, bringing in new vendors, and creating new art.
It's an awesome campus. Everyone is nice and helpful. It's not loud. The students are very chill. There are students of all ages and backgrounds, from the 20s to 30s to the 40s to the 50s...you get the jist. Anyway, there are many international students as well. I like that everything is there for the students. All kinds of activities, restaurants and more importantly help. There is help for anything and everything they need. They have free private counseling for anyone that needs it. They make sure that each student takes a mandatory training session on identifying someone in need or danger. They are big on safety for sure. It's a good place. It's expensive but think about all they offer. My fave part, the have some of the best professors. I'm in Creative Writing and many of my professors are Published Authors!
