International Business in Japan Program
Overview
The International Business in Japan program is a study abroad opportunity that allows students to learn about international business in one of the world's most dynamic markets while experiencing Japan's rich and vibrant culture. The program is led by faculty leaders Doreen Gooden and David Wernick and takes place in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, Japan.
Travel Dates and Locations
The program participants will travel from June 21-July 1, 2026, to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, Japan.
Program Costs
- $3,998 program fee
- $195 Education Abroad fee (non-refundable)
- $616.71 instructional fee per course All students (international/out-of-state and in-state) pay the same course fees.
What's Included
The program fee includes international airfare, hotel accommodations in a double-occupancy room with daily breakfast, activities, and excursions.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the program, students must:
- Be FIU degree-seeking students
- Be in good academic standing and meet the minimum 2.50 GPA
- Meet all prerequisites for the selected courses
- Have a health evaluation by a licensed physician to determine suitability to travel
- Not have any current student conduct violations
Courses Offered
Students can choose from the following courses:
- MAN 4956: Study Abroad in International Business (3 cr.) (mandatory)
- MAN 4602: International Business (3 cr.)
- MAN 4442: International Business Negotiations (3 cr.)
- MAN 4613: International Risk Management (3 cr.)
- MAN 4720: Strategic Management (3 cr.)

Financial Aid
Financial aid may be used for this study abroad program. Students who wish to use financial aid (grants, scholarships, loans, etc.) to help cover the cost of this program must speak with Financial Aid to discuss their individual needs.

Due Dates
Students must be mindful of the due dates listed below:
- Final Payment: $3,498 due March 1, 2026
- Copy of Passport & U.S. Residency Card/Visa/I20: April 1, 2026
- Medical Information Form: April 1, 2026
- Last Day to drop classes from the program: March 1, 2026
Refund Policy
- Refunds for Students Not Approved: Students who are not preliminarily approved to participate by academic advising will receive a full refund.
- Student requested withdrawal/cancellation: Registration fees are nonrefundable.
On Campus Meetings
Students enrolled in this program will be required to attend two on-campus meetings prior to the departure of the trip. The meetings will be held by the faculty directors.

- Passport: All students traveling on an FIU sponsored study abroad program must be in possession of a valid passport.

Student Stories
From Turkey studying in Florida It is one of the largest university campuses I have ever been to as I struggled to find the places that I needed to be multiple times. Food choices are great, library is phenomenal, and water fountains are very pleasing to sit by. SASC Building has very interesting architecture.
Studying in Florida I went here for my undergrad back several years ago and came back for my graduates. This university is a blast of culture and learning. Most of the professors are amazing, there's clubs for everything, classes that range from odd to amazing and everything in between. They keep adding to MMC making new buildings, bringing in new vendors, and creating new art.
It's an awesome campus. Everyone is nice and helpful. It's not loud. The students are very chill. There are students of all ages and backgrounds, from the 20s to 30s to the 40s to the 50s...you get the jist. Anyway, there are many international students as well. I like that everything is there for the students. All kinds of activities, restaurants and more importantly help. There is help for anything and everything they need. They have free private counseling for anyone that needs it. They make sure that each student takes a mandatory training session on identifying someone in need or danger. They are big on safety for sure. It's a good place. It's expensive but think about all they offer. My fave part, the have some of the best professors. I'm in Creative Writing and many of my professors are Published Authors!
