Introduction to Computational Engineering

The Aalto Bachelor's Programme in Science and Technology, majoring in Computational Engineering, is a multidisciplinary program that combines mathematics, engineering principles, and computing to develop advanced simulation techniques for analyzing complex physical problems.

Description

In this program, students learn to build precise virtual models of complex physical systems and use them to make accurate predictions. The program focuses on developing skills in applied mathematics, physics, mechanics, and classical engineering, as well as competence in using engineering software packages and programming skills.

Degree and Duration

The program leads to a Bachelor of Science (Technology) and Master of Science (Technology) degree, with a duration of 3+2 years, full-time.

Eligibility and Field of Study

The program is open to students with general eligibility for higher education, and the field of study is Technology and Engineering.

Credits and Organizing School

The program consists of 180+120 ECTS credits, and the organizing school is the School of Engineering.

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for non-EU/EEA citizens is €12,000/year (Bachelor's studies) + €17,000/year (Master's studies).

Structure of Studies

The bachelor's degree is composed of basic studies, major studies in computational engineering, minor studies, and elective studies.

Specializations

The major in computational engineering has a broad scope of research, including mechanics of materials, geoengineering, fluid dynamics, computational fluid dynamics, marine engineering, 3D printing, ice load estimation, and energy conversion.

Internationalization

Aalto University is international by nature, and the program offers opportunities for spending a semester abroad or taking a summer course at one of Aalto University's partner universities.

Further Study Opportunities

After completing their bachelor's degree, most graduates continue their education to the master's level, and graduates from the Computational Engineering major are entitled to pursue a Master of Science (Tech.) degree at Aalto University.

Career Opportunities

Computational simulations constitute an essential part of all technological industries, and graduates can pursue careers in a wide range of fields, including energy, construction, manufacturing, mechanical systems, and more.
