Program Overview

Introduction to International Joint Degree Programs

International joint degree programs are two-year English-language master's programs that involve studying at two or more universities. The application periods and selection procedures for these programs differ from other Aalto master's programs.

Program Description

International joint degree programs are collaborative efforts between two or more universities from different countries, leading to a degree. Since it is possible to receive two or more degree certificates, these programs are also referred to as double degree programs. These programs are two-year English-language master's programs, where students study at two or more universities and typically graduate from all of them.

Program Structure

Students can spend one year studying at a European partner university and the second year at Aalto, resulting in the award of a degree from both institutions. For example, a student can receive a Diploma Engineer or Master of Arts degree from Aalto and a corresponding Master of Science or Master of Arts degree from the partner university. The final thesis (diploma work or pro gradu) is submitted jointly to both universities.

Admission Criteria

The primary admission criterion is a bachelor's degree. However, students in their final year of bachelor's studies can apply with an incomplete degree, provided they complete their degree by the end of July in the year of selection.

Benefits

Double degree programs offer students the opportunity to receive two degree certificates, gain international experience, and potentially receive additional financial support. Students can receive financial aid for these programs, which is also available to Finnish students.

Financial Support

Most programs offer scholarships, which can be applied for by students, including those from Finland.
