Program Description

The studies of the bachelor's program in architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture ensure that the student knows the basics of planning architecture, landscape architecture or interior architecture and is prepared for master's studies.

Description of subject

The built environment forms the basis of national wealth in our country. That's why it's important that the student learns already in the bachelor's phase to comprehensively understand the field of construction and the human operating environment.

Competence objectives of the major

• Master the basic knowledge and skills of architectural, aesthetic, ecological and functional architectural design
• Understand the basics of the history and theory of architecture as part of the architect's profession
• Knows the functional and spatial factors of buildings as well as building materials, structures and building physics as part of architectural design

Landscape Architecture

• Scope: 126 cr

Description of subject

The aim of teaching landscape architecture is to prepare students for the profession as well as for its competent and responsible practice.

Competence objectives of the major

• Understanding the field of landscape planning, construction and maintenance, as well as the history and theory of landscape architecture
• Knows basic information about the natural factors and processes of the landscape and can analyze them

Interior architecture

• Scope: 111 cr
• Principal: Esa Vesmanen
• Major in English: Interior Architecture

Description of subject

The main point of interior architecture is the essence of living, understood through people's activities, lifestyles and culture.

Competence objectives of the major

• Is familiar with the basics of spatial and furniture design from an artistic, research, production and user point of view
• Represents design-related functions and light, weather and materials as part of the space

Byproduct

• Scope: at least 18 credits
• The minor can be produced by Aalto ARTS or another Aalto University college, or it can be completed at another Finnish university

Freely Elective Studies

• In the bachelor's program in architecture and landscape architecture: maximum 13 credits
• For the Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Architecture: a maximum of 25 credits

Study

• The bachelor's degree includes the thesis—, the scope of which, together with the seminar supporting the writing of the thesis, is 10 credits
