International Design Business Management, Master of Science (Economics and Business Administration)

The IDBM master's program is a pioneering and renowned program that embodies Aalto University's vision of a community of creative and courageous professionals. IDBM graduates are equipped to work in creative fields and organizations that leverage creativity, design, and technology as key elements of their competitive advantage.


Program Description

IDBM students solve complex real-world challenges in multidisciplinary teams and learn to understand future challenges through a holistic approach. The program focuses on design as a method, mindset, and competitive advantage, emphasizing product, service, and business design, as well as technology and innovation management. IDBM graduates have the ability to work and lead diverse teams, a forward-looking worldview, an understanding of business and design, and leadership skills to develop and lead design-driven strategies.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

The tuition fee for this program is 17,000 euros per academic year. Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland are exempt from tuition fees. Aalto University offers a limited number of scholarships to non-EU/EEA citizens, which can be applied for during the application process.


Program Structure

The IDBM master's program is a two-year, full-time program consisting of 120 ECTS credits. The program includes:


  • IDBM major studies (40 ECTS)
  • Minor studies (24 ECTS)
  • Elective studies (24 ECTS)
  • Master's thesis (30 ECTS)
  • Thesis seminar (2 ECTS)

Specialization Options

IDBM students study in an international, tight-knit, and multidisciplinary student community. The mandatory IDBM core studies are combined with a six-month industry project and team-based work, enabling students to apply and practice various knowledge, tools, and methods in real-life cases.
