Program Overview
Introduction to Signal Processing
Course Information
The Introduction to Signal Processing course is offered by the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The course schedule is from 23.2.2026 to 24.4.2026, with a registration period from 26.1.2026 to 23.2.2026.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course, students will be able to:
- Explain basic terminology and concepts in digital signal processing (DSP)
- Explain the functioning of basic building blocks of practical DSP systems and design simple systems using them
- Explain basic concepts of Fourier or frequency-domain representation of signals
- Understand mathematical and practical aspects within the design of digital filters
- Use a computer language (such as Matlab or Python) for solving basic signal processing tasks
- Identify real-world signal processing problems
Content
The course covers principles of digital filtering, including difference equations and transfer functions, design of FIR and IIR filters, spatial filters, and applications of signal processing.
Teacher
The course teacher is Filip Elvander.
Study Material
Lecture slides and handouts are provided, and additional study materials can be found on the course page.
Workload
The course includes lectures, exercises, and exams.
Prerequisites
Recommended prerequisites include ELEC-A7200 Signals and Systems or equivalent knowledge.
Evaluation
The course is evaluated through an exam, exercises, and homework assignments.
