Course Information
Learning Outcomes
Upon completing the course, students will be able to:
- Recognize the types of real-world business decision problems where the use of mathematical optimization models brings added value.
- Interpret the results of these models to derive defensible decision recommendations.
- Build and solve these models using relevant software to support business decision making.
Content
The course will cover linear, mixed-integer, non-linear, and multiple objective optimization/programming models, with application examples in supply chain management, production planning, finance, and marketing.

The study materials will include lecture slides, scientific articles, assignments, computer implementations of mathematical models, and the textbook "An Introduction to Management Science" by Anderson et al. (2014, ISBN Code: 978--0).

Prerequisites
Recommended prerequisites include completing courses ISM-A1002 "Introduction to Data Analytics" and 30A02000 "Introduction to Statistics," or obtaining equivalent skills from other university-level courses. These skills should include basics of linear algebra, multivariate functions, matrices, vectors, probability, random variables, and good Excel skills. Previous experience in programming with a modern language (Python, R, Java) will be useful.

Student performance will be evaluated based on assignments and an exam.
